Provides pavement condition surveys necessary for 
designs including deflection measurements Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) and Benkelmann beam, Traffic surveys including traffic volume and axle-load survey, Roughness and surface regularity by use of Road Laser Profiler and Roughometer, Skid resistance using Airport Surface Friction Tester (ASFT), and Consultancy services for pavement condition survey and design for both roads and airports.

Road Laser Profiler

This equipment that uses laser technology and has been installed with both GPS and CCTV system perform the following functions:

  • Measures road rutting and roughness.
  • Records a video from which potholes, cracks, bleeding, deformation and other road defects can be established.
  • The vided can also be sued to record vegetation, drainage condition, billboards and road encroachment.
  • Mapping of pavement location using GPS
  • Data stored in large server and computers has an elaborate analysis of software.
  • State of the art equipment of its only type and East and Central Africa if not Africa.
  • Operated at highway speeds (30kph-100kph).
  • MTRD has full calibration capability for the equipment.
  • Latest technology takes up to 1mm internal while vided records frames at 5.0m intervals.
  • Output can be converted to any popular format such as international roughness index, bump integrator, straight edge index, HDM IV- compatible output etc.
  • Used for full surface condition survey including rutting, roughness, distress and effects visual condition survey using vided technology and skid resistance (Surface Friction).
  • Rapid data collection and analysis.

Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD)

The equipment is used to perform the following:

  • MTRD has two types PRIFWD with nine (9) geophones and PRIMAX with fourteen (14) geophones.
  • PRIMAX can be sued to establish strength of roads, airports and port pavements
  • PRIFWD in primarily for roads.
  • Used to establish the overlay required. The overlay can be AC, DBM or concrete.
  • PRIMAX FWD is of its only kind in Africa.
  • Data collected using computers and analyzed using popular software’s such as Elmod and Rosy Software.
  • Equipment is also used to establish weak sections of road that required reconstruction

Surface Friction Tester (T-5 TRAILER)

The equipment is used to perform the following:
  • Friction measurement on airport runways, taxiways and on roads
  • To ensure acceptable road/runway conditions
  • To ensure pavement is good condition to avoid accident due to poor friction
  • Good rideability/knowledge of friction is paramount for safety and maintenance cost planning
